Reference:
Abaqus 6.11 Benchmarks Manual. – USA, Providence, RI., 2011, – 1731 p. – example 1.2.5. Lateral buckling of an L-bracket.
Problem description:
The L-shaped bracket is rigidly clamped at one end and loaded with concentrated force P at the other end, as shown in the figure. Determine the value of the force Pcr at which there is a loss of stability.
Problem sketch:
Type of created problem:
Spatial structure (X, Y, Z, UX, UY, UZ).
Geometric characteristics:
Bracket dimensions: a x b x c = 240 х 240 x 30 mm;
Plate thickness: t = 0.6 mm.
Material properties:
Elastic modulus: E = 7.124·1010 Pa;
Poisson’s ratio: μ = 0.3.
Boundary conditions:
Fixation domain: X = Y = Z = UX = UY = UZ = 0.
Loads:
P = 1 N.
Model description:
The system is modeled using 272 finite elements of thin shell (FE type is 44). The number of nodes in the calculation scheme is 345.
